The Uncle Group, Inc. is a privately held computer software and services company specializing in providing functional products to the market research community. Originally established in 1975, the company's founders reorganized and incorporated the business as The Uncle Group, Inc. in 1993. Our initial offering, and UNCLE PROFESSIONAL's predecessor, was CSSTAB, a database management and tabulation system designed and written by the company's founders, Bruce Grey Tedesco and William Below. CSSTAB was available solely over the international National CSS time-sharing network. CSSTAB evolved into the UNCLE Tabulation System in 1980, and was offered for on-site installation on a variety of platforms and operating systems. These included mainframes such as the IBM 370 and 30XX series and Amdahls, as well as minis and supermicros made by Apollo, DEC, Hewlett Packard, and Data General. In 1984, an IBM PC XT-compatible version of UNCLE was released. Other products offered in the years following included our data entry system ACCESS and our interviewing system REACH. As the power of IBM and compatible personal computers increased and their presence proliferated over the following decade, many UNCLE users switched to this new processing environment, and the trend among new purchasers shifted in this direction. It became apparent that PCs, MS-DOS, and Windows were the platform and operating systems of choice, so in 1993 all new development and enhancement of UNCLE and its companion software-products reflected this shift. UNCLE PROFESSIONAL, our 32-bit fully-integrated Windows application compatible with all 32-bit versions of Windows, debuted in 2001. This newest offering of UNCLE is a significant advancement from its 16-bit predecessors, with improved ease of use and processing speeds, larger databases, and a host of interfaces with other Windows programs for both importing and exporting data. With the introduction of UNCLE REPORTS, The Uncle Group entered an exciting new phase of Market and Attitude Research processing, providing a software application whose function and features can be mastered in a matter of minutes by novice and experienced users alike. |
